The Winter Circus in Liège, Belgium, is a round
brick building with a roof made of skylights. Its splendid
architecture creates an atmosphere of air and space and
offers beautiful analogies to ”The Creation Of The
Universe".
The ”main characters” of the video are oranges,
suspended on blue strings, swinging to and fro, creating
time and space for dances to unfold.

A woman in a red dress is running down a stairway. Then
another. And another. And one more ... different women,
different dresses, different stairways. All of a sudden:
twenty of them together on one huge flight of stairs,
running down, down, down.
The theme and its variations are simple but make a strong
visual and rhythmical impact.
Repetition, variation, accumulation and sudden shifts
in the storyline create a breathtaking short film.

GRETCHEN CASTING

Produced for Goethe's 250th Birthday, this project began
as 12 young German women committed Goethe's ”Gretchen-Monolog”
(of Faust) to memory. They then chose scenery and costume
and were videotaped as a ”reversed casting”
in their chosen surroundings. Afterwards, the recorded
scenes were cross-edited and the result became a wild
mixture of Rock n’ Roll, romantic, weird images and
experimental theatre.
